Zee News: Dronacharya felicitation by SRFI

“It is indeed a great achievement for my coach (Poncha) but it pains me that Poncha and the federation is being criticised by few,” said former world junior number one, Saurav Ghosal of Kolkata, who is being coached by Poncha at the ICL Academy here for several years.

Praising Poncha for his achievements in coaching the juniors, who have kept the Indian flag fly high in the game, N Ramachandran, Secretary, SRFI, said “Poncha has been a boon to Indian squash. He along with Maj S Maniam, consultant coach, will carry on and produce more international players.”

Ramachandran thanked the Union government, Sports Development Authority of India and Tamil Nadu for their “farsightedness” in helping setting up of the ICL Squash Academy here.

W I Davaram, Vice President, SDTN, said “Poncha has guided the destiny of Indian squash. While no coach is retained in his post for longer period of time in Indian sports, Poncha has proved his commitment in the last eight years.”

Col Ravindra Malik, a former Indian international, said “he has scaled the pinnacle of glory in coaching standards.”

Replying to the felicitations, Poncha said “I owe my coaching skills to Maj S Maniam” adding that he will be committed towards his goal of producing Indian players of international repute.
