Indian Squad for WMT’07

The Squash Rackets Federation of India announced their team for the 21stICL World Men’s Team Squash Championship to be held in Chennai, India from 6-12 December 2007.  The squad was decided on their performances in domestic and international tournaments during 2007.   

  1. Saurav Ghosal (PSA World Ranking # 49)
  2. Ritwik Bhattacharya (PSA World Ranking # 72)
  3. Siddharth Suchde (PSA World Ranking # 149)
  4. Gaurav Nandrajog (PSA World Ranking # 141)
  5. Harinderpal Singh Sandhu is the non playing reserve. 

Maj. (R). S. Maniam and Mr. Cyrus Poncha have been chosen to be the manager and coach for the squad.  Saurav who reached his highest world rank of 40 this April will spearhead the Indian team. In 2007 he participated in 11 PSA events winning at home the Chennai Open. Saurav qualified for the main draw of the Hong Kong Open, British Open and Tournament of Champions in 2007. Saurav will be coming direct from Bermuda where he will be participating in the World Individual Championship.  Former national champion, Ritwik is all set for the event after his good performance in Malaysia and Hong Kong earlier this month. In Hong Kong, Ritwik qualified for the main draw defeating world no. 55 Chirs Simpson and in the main draw went down in a 5 set thriller against world no. 18 Adrian Grant.  Siddharth Suchde who graduated from Harvard this year was ranked 344 in September. By virtue of reaching the main draw of 3 major events, within a span of 2 months he jumped 196 places to reach his current rank of 148.  Gaurav participated in 6 PSA events reaching the quarter final twice. Starting the year ranked 195 he has moved up 55 spots. Gaurav also played 3 PSA Closed satellite events in Chennai winning all of them.
