Hong Kong Open, Hong Kong (12-18 October 2009)

India’s Saurav Ghosal read the main draw at the HK Open losing to 4th seed Ramy Ashour. Dipika Pallikal became the youngest – and lowest ranked – player to earn a place in the main draw after an impressive straight games success.  The 18-year-old from Chennai, ranked 54 in the world, ousted Joelle King -beating the New Zealander ranked 32 in the world 14-12, 11-5, 11-5.

Men’s qualifying finals:
Saurav Ghosal (IND) bt Nicolas Mueller (SUI) 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 (42m)

Men’s qualifying 1st round:
Saurav Ghosal (IND) bt Mathieu Castagnet (FRA) 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 (48m)

Women’s 1st round:
[16] Raneem El Weleily (EGY) bt [Q] Dipika Pallikal (IND) 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7 (33m)

Women’s qualifying finals:
Dipika Pallikal (IND) bt Joelle King (NZL) 14-12, 11-5, 11-5 (40m)
